BHAGVADA GITA IN OUR DAILY LIFE

Mahatma Gandhi had often acknowledged the Bhagavad Gita’s profound effect on his life. He said, “When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and I see not one ray of hope on the horizon, I turn to Bhagavad-Gita and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. Those who meditate on the Gita will derive fresh joy and new meanings from it every day.”

Bhagavad-gétä originally appears as an episode of the Mahäbhärata, a great historical epic, in which it occupies chapters 25 through 42 in the Bhéñma Parva. The Gétä has long been considered the essence of Vedic literature, the vast body of ancient scriptural writings that forms the basis of Vedic philosophy and spirituality. As the essence of the 108 Upaniñads, it is sometimes referred to as Gétopaniñad.

The History of the Bhagavad-gétä is given in Gita itself in the beginning of 4th chapter mentioned that from a remote time when it was delivered to the royal order of all planets, beginning from the sun planet. The king of all planets are especially meant for the protection of the inhabitants, and therefore the royal order should understand the science of Bhagavad-gétä in order to be able to rule the citizens and protect them from material bondage to lust. Human life is meant for cultivation of spiritual knowledge, in eternal relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and the executive heads of all states and all planets are obliged to impart this lesson to the citizens by education, culture and devotion. In other words, the executive heads of all states are intended to spread the science of Kåñëa consciousness so that the people may take advantage of this great science and pursue a successful path, utilizing the opportunity of the human form of life. EVERY TOWN AND VILLAGE

More than five hundred years ago Lord Caitanya mahaprabhu had predicted-

påthivéte äche yata nagarädi-gräma
sarvatra pracära haibe mora näma

"In every town and village of the world, My name [the holy name of Kåñëa] will be preached."

This statement used to puzzle Vaiñëava scholars; some said it was to be taken allegorically. How could mlecchas in Western countries take up the worship of Lord Kåñëa and Lord Caitanya and chant Hare Kåñëa in their towns and cities? But Çréla Prabhupäda proved the skeptics wrong. On his spiritual master's order and by Lord Caitanya's grace, he created The Hare Kåñëa Movement, which quickly spread all over the world.

Çréla Prabhupäda's preaching of the Bhagavad-gétä provides an example of how the pure devotees give authority to the scriptures. Through his realized translations and purports, Çréla Prabhupäda brought life to the text of Bhagavad-gétä, and now thousands of non-Hindus throughout the world are recognizing Lord Kåñëa as the Supreme Personality of Godhead and becoming His sincere devotees.
